NETs@Helmholtz Retreat 2024
The NETs@Helmholtz 2024 retreat took place from September 16th in Reykjavik, Iceland.
This annual event, organized by the NETs@Helmholtz Research School, provided a unique opportunity for graduate students to explore the intersection of geothermal energy and Direct Air Capture technology.
The retreat focused on both technical learning and personal growth, featuring workshops, field trips, and discussions. It emphasized the importance of Iceland's geothermal resources, which are crucial for DAC technology, particularly in providing low-cost heat for regenerating DAC sorbents and enabling permanent CO2 storage through basalt formations. The retreat also fostered a supportive environment for mental health discussions and personal connections, all while offering an inspiring setting to reflect on the harmony between technology and nature.
