Greetings from Calgary, Canada
University of Calgary
Constanze Baust

Constanze erzählt: "From August 1 to October 1, 2024, I was able to spend two months doing research at the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary in Canada. There I had the opportunity to talk to several experts in the field of Canadian environmental law, CCS and CDR in Canada. I was hosted by Prof. Anna-Maria Hubert, who offered me to work in her office and also gave me feedback on my research so far, which was very helpful. In addition to that, I was able to talk to Carbon Engineering, a Canadian company that is developing a Direct Air Capture technology. I got a lot of advice, literature and new insights from the professors in the faculty. They all helped me, answered my questions, and they were interested in my research and background."

"The stay in Calgary was a valuable experience for me. I learned a lot about CCS and CDR in Canada, about Canadian environmental law and about the country in general. These new insights are important for my doctoral thesis on a legal framework for Direct Air Capture and Storage (DACCS), which includes a legal comparison between German and EU law and Canadian law."

"Besides working at the university, I enjoyed the Canadian culture, the nature and the kindness of the people in this beautiful country. No matter who you talk to, whether it’s professors, other people at the university, or people you meet on the bus, I found everyone to be open-minded, helpful, and very friendly."

"The stay in Calgary was funded by the ‘Helmholtz Research School for Negative Emission Technologies’ (NETs@Helmholtz). I am very grateful for this opportunity and the support I received before and during my stay. I am sure that my dissertation will benefit from this experience in many ways."
